CURTAIN DESIGN
When the architect office, Uao won the competition for this new library, there was no curtains in the proposal although the architect knew that they had to put on curtains to protect the books from UV rays. As the big windows are ranged, the architect wanted to put special curtains made especially for this environment. After looking at my fashion collection, she ordered me a light curtain just like my fashion collection.

A part of a historic and classic office building in central Tokyo has been refurbished into a shared space. Completed in 1978, this office building has 27 floors in total. Since many tenants are currently occupying the building, the architects planned to modernize it with minimal construction work.

Until this arcthitecture becomes their final residence someday, the owner couple want to rent it. They planned a spa salon, yoga room, tea ceremony room and two apartments inside. Originally the architect wanted to use textile for the surface of sliding door panels for better acoustic.

The house locates in the very quiet residential district surrounded by woods. As the existing house had a unique shape window that is difficult to attach the ordinary curtain rail, the architect searches a contemporary solution for the curtains.

Izumi Hongo, the graduate of the academy Antwerpen of mode, is a fashion, knitting and interior textile designer based in Antwerp. She also studied architecture in Tokyo before she settled in Antwerp. She was looking for the opportunity to expose her creation between fashion and architecture, and luckily she got the chance to do it by her public installation.
